25 Apr :US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met top American military commanders in Baghdad today to assess and discuss the country’s fragile security situation. She reached Baghdad today a day after two suicide attackers killed nearly 70 pilgrims at a shrine in the city.
Earlier she told reporters that US would press the Iraqis to create a non-sectarian security force that will not tolerate either sectarian actions or any kind of armed assault on the people of Iraq. Terming the recent bombings as unfortunate Ms Clinton said the country has made great strides despite this week’s violence that killed nearly 150 people in two days. Ms. Clinton said that it is a sign that extremists are afraid of the success of Iraqi government .
During the visit, she will meet with Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, Prime minister Nouri al-Maliki, and Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari. she will also meet the U.N. representative, Iraqi aid workers and Iraqi war widows in US embassy.
