18-Year Old Honored with Coveted International Service Award
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Youth Service America (YSA) – the global organization that improves communities by increasing the number and diversity of young people serving in substantive roles – announces CHANDIGARH resident PRIYA VERMA won its Everyday Young Hero Award which honors extraordinary contributions and commitments to service.
One of 50 Everyday Young Hero Awards given annually youth ages 5-25, YSA recognizes eighteen year old Priya Verma from Chandigarh, India, for her efforts to create innovative water harvesting technologies to reverse the depletion of ground water sources in India. Priya is a student, writer, journalist, artist, innovator, scholar, environmentalist, social worker, and state, national and many international award holder in the field of environmental science and community services. She has penned more than 1000 articles on various issues, including environmental issues adversely affecting the Indian population and ecosystems. For her work to provide sustainable water usage practices to ensure water security for generations to come, we honor Priya as an Everyday Young Hero.“PRIYA VERMA exemplifies everything YSA looks for in a young leader,” says Steve Culbertson, YSA President and CEO. “We receive so many applications from around the world and picking 50 is not only a tough challenge, but a testament to the significance of PRIYA VERMA contributions to service and his / her community.
The winner is announced in the organization’s weekly Service Briefing, featured on its website and showcased on its social media outlets. Everyday Young Heroes also receive a certificate, award and press release.
The award winner Priya said “I am very excited to receive this international award and thankful to YSA for this great honor and to become the first person to receive this award outside USA”.
