Dr. Avnish Jolly, Winnipeg, Canada December 12, 2014 : Malala Yousafzai became a Nobel Peace Prize winner, but she’s also a 17-year-old. The education activist effectively channelizes Selfies and makes a movement against evil forces against the mankind. Chanakya advocated, “The fragrance of flowers spreads only in the direction of the wind. But the goodness of a person spreads in all directions.”
A selfie is a self-portrait photograph, typically taken with a hand-held digital camera or camera phone. Selfies are often shared on social networking services such as Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. They are usually flattering and made to appear casual. Most selfies are taken with a camera held at arm’s length or pointed at a mirror, rather than by using a self-timer.
Malala’s three best practices for taking great selfies:
1. Use selfies for good
2. Learn from selfies
3. Don’t be above taking selfies
Ms Yousafzai became an icon after she was shot and by the Taliban in October 2012 for insisting that girls had a right to an education. She is the youngest Nobel peace winner and the first Pakistani to claim the prize. After she was shot at point-blank range, she was taken to Britain for treatment. Her family joined her and she now goes to school there, unable to return to Pakistan because of Taliban death threats. The fragrance of flowers spreads only in the direction of the wind. But the goodness of a person spreads in all directions.
Earlier in the week she broke her emotions’ at the sight of the bloodied school uniform she wore on the day she was attacked, , prompting fellow awardee Kailash Satyarthi to comfort her saying “you are so brave” on display at an Nobel Peace Prize exhibition 2014 in the Norwegian capital. This is the first time Malala’s uniform is being shown in public.
The blue tunic, white headscarf and white trousers, stained brown by dried blood, are on display at an exhibition dedicated to the 17-year-old education activist and her fellow 2014 Nobel Peace Prize winner Kailash Satyarthi, which the activists jointly inaugurated in the Norwegian capital.
The uniform has been kept by Malala’s family since she was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman in October 2012. The bullet which hit Malala in the head went through her neck and lodged in the muscle above her shoulder blade. After the shooting she was moved to Birmingham in the UK for extensive surgery.

Mahatma Gandhi said that “Every good movement passes through five stages, indifference, ridicule, abuse, repression, and respect.” “……. truthful movements spontaneously attract to themselves all manner of pure and disinterested help,” and being a student of Lifelong Learning and Community Development I understand that one cannot gain success in something without properly channelizing it. Malala and Satyarthi were awarded Noble Prize for creating Mass Movement for the advocacy of basic child rights; education and protection through their Selfies. There are 10 directions of to present Selfies effectively in the Sky:
1. Be relevant!
2. Don’t have privacy restrictions.
3. Have a good profile.
4. Get Followed & Follow.
5. Keep it integrated.
6. Don’t forget about People!
7. Check out the Selfies for Community Development.
8. Use Selfies video.
9. Offer emotions and regards to Community.
10. Lastly, be GENUINE and FUN with it!
We must remember John F. Kennedy’s advice to create a community movement for sustainable development that “Efforts and courage are not enough without purpose and direction.”
