Dr. Avnish Jolly,Canada : Diwali celebration as they prepare for the festival of lights. Members of Mississauga’s Indian community lit ceremonial lamps at a banquet last night to mark Diwali. The function was put on by NGO, at Sagan Banquet Hall. The event was the ninth such gala KC Group has put on. The group exists to support the Indian community in the GTA with networking events and guidance for recent immigrants there was a party atmosphere with a sumptuous meal of Indian cuisine with music and dancing. But the highlight of the night was the lighting of the lamps for Diwali. Also known as the “festival of lights,” Diwali is a five-day celebration which, this year, begins on Tuesday. Sanjeev Srivastava, director of NGO, said, “The lamps represent hope and give direction for the future.”
