INDIANAPOLIS, SEPT 23 : A brilliant unbeaten knock of 73 by Pirabu Selvaraj and deadly bowling spell by Niranjan Despande (7-3-15-3) and Krishna Dass (7-1-21-3) pave the way for Kalvin Cincinnati 1 to emerge champions in the Midwest Cricket Tournament at Rhodes Park on Sunday. In the final match, they outplayed Columbus Cricket Club-Red by 103 runs.
Kalvin Cincinnati 1 won the toss and decided to bat first. Their openers Nabil Hamadani (33 runs, 35 balls, 3x4s, 1×6) and Thiag Loganathan (40, 22 balls, 4x4s, 1×6) gave them a solid start before Thiag Loganathan was caught by Sanjay of the bowling of Mayur Patel.
Pirabu Selvaraj further cemented the Kalvin Cincinnati I innings with a polished unbeaten 73. With a striking rate of 117.4, Selvaraj’s unbeaten 73 contained two boundaries and three soaring sixes. He faced just 62 deliveries. Sandeep Kondapalli (20), Hari Prashanth Sundaram (11), Vishvesh Bharath (13) and Krishna Dass (16) also made valuable contributions as Kalvin Cincinnati I piled up an impressive total of 228 for 9 in stipulated 35 overs.
Dinesh Kamaraj (3 for 64), Mayur Patel (2 for 49) and Sanjay Patel (2 for 23) were the most successful bowlers for Columbus Cricket Club-Red.
Chasing a victory target of 229, Columbus Cricket Club-Red were bundled out for 125 in 32 overs. After the fall of their first wicket of Gowtham Voruganti (6), they were losing their wickets at regular intervals. Senthil Krishna played a defiant knock of 36 which came from 54 balls and contained two fours and onesix.
Niranjan Deshpande (3 for 15), Krishna Dass (3 for 21) and Sandeep Kondapalli (2 for 14) were the wrecker-in-chief of the Columbus Cricket Club-Red innings.
