27 August :Hindus have commended Church of England for launching a manual and a yearlong program of practical action to reduce carbon emissions.
Acclaimed Hindu leader Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, lauded the Church and Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams for initiating this guide for their church leaders and congregations drawing on ancient theological themes to deal with current environmental issues.
Zed, who is the president of Universal Society of Hinduism, points out that as climate change affects all religions and denominations equally, so religions should derive action plans from their respective scriptures to inspire their congregations to take climate change seriously and reconnect to natural world. Scriptures have great respect for mother nature.
All religions should come out with their own unique environmental awareness campaigns linking it to their theology to help their congregations in their reorientation and rediscovery. Create a clear environmental policy suitable for your traditions and put environment at the core of value system, Rajan Zed stresses and adds that climate change should be taken as a religious concern.
