In a remarkable interfaith gesture, His Beatitude Moran Mor Baselios Cardinal Cleemis Catholicos, head of worldwide Syro-Malankara Catholic Church and youngest Roman Catholic Cardinal, and distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed met in Reno (Nevada, USA) on September one.
In this meeting, held at St Rose of Lima Catholic Church Reno, Cardinal Cleemis and Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, had dialogue on issues of common interest and efforts at promoting interfaith dialogue.
Rajan Zed points out that serious and honest interfaith dialogue is the need of the hour. Religion is the most powerful, complex and far-reaching force in our society, so we must take it seriously, Zed adds.
Syro-Malankara Catholic Church, whose foundation goes back to St. Thomas, one of the twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ, has about half-a-million members.
Hinduism, oldest and third largest religion of the world, has about one billion adherents and moksh (liberation) is its ultimate goal.
