The Department of Urology, PGIMER, Chandigarh is going to organize A Live Operative Workshop-cum-CME on Uro-Oncology on 9th – 10th September, 2011. During these two days the experts are going to discuss about the recent developments in the field of cancers of kidney bladder and prostate. The kidney cancer when it spreads to the other organs like liver, lung, bones and brain, it is very difficult to cure the patient. However recent discovery of few medicines like sunitnib, sorafenib, everolimus, temsirolimus etc. can improve the survival of these patients which was beyond imagination even few years ago. The bladder cancer when it invades the muscle wall of the bladder can be cured by removal of bladder (radical cysectomy). However, following this surgery urine is usually collected in a bag applied to the patients body that changes the body image of the patient. However recent improvement in technology has enabled the urologist to construct a new bladder and the patient can pass urine through the normal passage as told by Dr. Uttam Mete, Organising Secretary of the Workshop. International experts like Prof. Urs. E. Studer from Switzerland will be demonstrating this neobladder surgery during this workshop said Prof. A. K. Mandal, Professor & Head, Department of Urology. National faculty will also will perform live operations during this workshop. It is expected this sort of academic activity will benefit the delegates who are coming from different parts of the country.
