18 Dec : Major General K S Oberoi, General Officer Commanding Delhi Area inaugurated a 3-day workshop on HIV/AIDS Peer Educator “Train the Trainer” begins here today.
The workshop is being conducted with the aim of educating a peer group consisting of senior commanders, medical professionals and troops on the magnitude of HIV/AIDS and its impact on the uniformed services and to spread awareness about the problem.
There will be a special session addressing social issues in relation to HIV/AIDS on 19th December, to be inaugurated by Mrs. Vandana Oberoi, President Army Wives Welfare Association, Delhi Area. School children from Army Public School, Shankar Vihar would present a play on AIDS awareness on the occasion. A Service couple afflicted with AIDS would participate in an interactive discussion.
Parallel sessions would be conducted for peer groups by Partners in Development Initiative, an NGO, on 19th and 20th December focusing on issues like ethics, sexuality and peer education skills.
The workshop has been organized by the Medical Division, Base Hospital, Delhi Cantonment, under the aegis of the Director-General Armed Forces Medical Services, Ministry of Defence, in collaboration with the Centre of Excellence, United States Pacific Command (USPACOM).
