Amritsar, Sept 25: The Wave World Kabaddi League (Wave WKL) caravan, which has travelled through three different cities in Punjab already, will next stop at Amritsar for a triple header beginning Friday (September 26) at the Guru Nanak Dev University Hockey Stadium. The city will also see matches on September 27 and 28.
Preceding the Kabaddi action each day, will be some enthralling entertainment from famous Punjabi artists Kaler Kanth, Ravinder Grewal and Surjeet Bhullar.
As the Wave WKL enters the second half of the Championships, which has already been to six different cities in two continents – Europe and Asia – the weekend promises to be mix of sport and entertainment guaranteed to thrill the locals.
Khalsa Warriors lead the Wave WKL with 17 points from nine games, while Lahore Lions have 10 from seven matches and are placed second. United Singhs and Yo Yo Tigers have eight points each from eight games, while Punjab Thunder has seven points from eight games.
This weekend Lahore Lions, Punjab Thunder, Vancouver Lions and Royal Kings USA will play two matches each, while others play one game each.
After unprecedented success in Ludhiana, Bathinda and Jalandhar, Amritsar, fans in the City of world-renowned Golden Temple, will witness the sport, which can rightly be called as the most famous sporting export from Punjab apart from hockey.
The Wave WKL matches have so far been held in spectacular locations like O2 Arena, London; LG Arena, Birmingham; Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium New Delhi; PAU Grounds in Ludhiana, Rajindra College Bathinda and Surjit Hockey Stadium Jalandhar.
The first seven weeks of Wave WKL have proved to be a big hit with the audiences as the league has been successful in attracting more eyeballs resulting into better television ratings than many other previously concluded popular leagues.
The Holy city of Amritsar, often called the spiritual center of Sikh religion, is famous for its authentic cuisine and culture. Amritsar is a key sports hub of Punjab offering world class sports infrastructure and facilities.
