CHANDIGARH, DEC 18 : Fourth seed, CHART trainee, Digvijay Pratap upset top seed Param Pun to move into singles finals of the U-16 CLTA-AITA Championship Series Tennis Tournament at the Sector 10 Tennis Stadium here today.
In the 1st set Digvijay played aggressive tennis and forced Param Pun to make errors and blanked him with a 6-0 win. In the second set top seed Param Pun used his experience and slowed down game resulting Digvijay Pratap to make unforced errors. Digvijay Pratap was trailing 3-5 but soon after he played some aggressive ground strokes and kept Param Pun running for all his shots. Digvijay won next four games to finish up the match at 7-5.
Second seed CHART trainee, Vikrant Dahiya played some heavy top spin shots to dominate the match against third seed Nihit Rawal. Vikrant using good attacking shots and playing some good volleys to finish the points had a comfortable 6-1, 6-2 win. He will be playing his doubles partner Digvijay Pratap in Singles Final.
In the girls U-16 semi-final top seed Baani Singh moved into finals by conceding only one game against CLTA trainee Pious Mudgil. She will be facing 3rd seed Tanya Batra who took the 1st set against Gurneek conceding only one game but Gurneek gave her tough fight, in the 2nd set Gurneek went down 5-7.
In the girls doubles final Baani Singh and Seerat Pannu defeated Pious Mudgil and Gayatri Kumaraiah 7-5, 6-3.
Results: Boys Singles U-16 (semi-finals): Digvijay Pratap bt Param Pun 6-0, 7-5, Vikrant Dahiya bt Nihit Rawal 6-1, 6-2.
Girls Singles U-16 (semi-finals): Baani bt Pious Mudgil 6-1, 6-0, Tanya Batra bt Gurneek 6-1, 7-5.
Girls Doubles U-16 (final): Baani/Seerat bt Pious/Gayatri 7-5, 6-3.
