CHANDIGARH, DEC 19 : Banni Singh and Vikrant Dahyia won the girls and boys singles titles in the CLTA-AITA Championship Tennis Series at the Sector 10 Tennis Stadium here today. Due to foggy weather the finals were delayed by 15 mintues.
In the girls singles final Baani Singh dominated by moving her opponent Tanya Batra to win 6-1, 6-1. But it was different story in the boys singles final where both the CHART trainees displayed some top class tennis and entertained the crowd. The match lasted three hours and ten minutes. Second seed Vikrant Dahiya defeated Digvijay Pratap to win the title in three sets.
In the 1st set Vikrant moved his opponent with heavy top spin. But Digvijay Pratap was countering every shot and made some unforced errors in game points. Vikrant won the 1st set 6-4. In the second set Vikrant was playing with similar strategy but Digvijay hit some big forehands to win important points and took the set at 7-5.
In the third and decidng set both the players tried to attack and it was Vikrant who took early break but Digvijay came back strongly to level it and took the break. Vikrant kept his focus and fought back to make a comeback in the match and won the final set 6-4.
Ms. Payal Sodhi, Founder Trustee of People for Animal, Chandigarh gave away the prizes to finalists.
Results:Boys Singles U-16 (final): Vikrant Dahiya bt. Digvijay Pratap 6-5, 5-7, 6-4.
Girls Singles U-16 (final): Baani bt. Tanya Batra 6-1, 6-1.
