21 Oct : The members of the Anjuman Sair-e-Gul Faroshan presented a traditional Pankha to the Vice President of India Shri M. Hamid Ansari at a function at Vice President House here today.
A number of dignitaries including Ms. Usha Kumar, Secretary General were present on the occasion. Many States send their Pankhas in this three day festival of Hindu-Muslim brotherhood beginning on 23rd October 2008. This annual festival was revived by late Shri Yogeshwar Dayal in 1961.
Addressing on the occasion, the Vice President said that the ‘Phool Walo ki Sair’ is a part of an ancient tradition and signifies the people of Delhi. Such festivals remind us of our basic values which we have forgotten. Congratulating the members of Anjuman Sair-e-Gul Faroshan for organizing such festival, he said that this festival is a unique affirmation of communal harmony and its message of peace and unity should be spread nationwide. He wished the festival a great success.
