2 Jan : Now, Snehalaya shelter home kids would have a chance to learn and hone their hidden acting talents. The department of Social Welfare, Chandigarh Administration in association with Tagore Theatre Society has been organising a special theatre workshop for them till January 10 from 5 pm to 7 pm daily on the premises of Snehalya . Conducted by the two pass-outs from the department of Indian Theatre, the workshop is being looked after in the presence of an aminent theatre personality and tagore theatre director, Kuldip Sharma who hasbeen visiting the workshop to share his experiences with the kids.
Theatre Workshop include activities like Dancing, Theatre games, storytelling etc. Being conducted by Sh. Abhishek Sharma and Asha Saklani, the children’s workshop will help them to hone up their skills and groom their personality. According to the Director Social Welfare, Ms.Varsha Khangwal,” the theatre workshop will be a revelation for the kids who come from slums .It is an achievement of sorts, as it will bring positive change in the lives of these children. This theatre programme to be conducted by the Social Welfare Department is a complete and independent programme, which will have its own activities, for the all-round development of children and to discover their talents through the medium of theatre at various levels.’
The workshop focuses on developing the children’s personality through theatre and arts education. Children were taught all aspects of theatre production including scripting, costumes, make-up and lighting.On the second day of the workshop, all 200 children were divided into various teams and were asked to perform different tasks. The response amongst the enthusiastic girls was quiet appreciating as they performed different scenes including classroom scene, hospital scene, temple scence etc.The instructors are imparting multi-pronged knowledge and involving them in various exercises to enhance their confidence. They are also learning concentration games, voice exercises, breathing exercises, yoga etc
