PUNE, DEC 6 : Second seeded Thailand pair of Nicha Lertpitaksinchai and Peangtarn Plipuech prevailed over Great Britain duo of Jocelyn Rae and Anna Smith by 7-5, 7-5 in the doubles final of the $ 25000 NECC-ITF Women’s Tennis Tournament at Deccan Gymkhana courts here today.
Top seed Magda Linette of Poland and Kamila Kerimbayeva of Kazakhstan set up title clash in the singles after beating their respective rivals in the semi-finals in contrasting styles.
Magda Linette struggled in the first set and lost in tie-breaker to third seed Diana Marcinkevica of Lativia. Despite losing the first set, Magda was not disappointed. In fact she changed her gameplan to register win by 6-7(2) 6-1 6-2.
In the second semi-final Kamila Kerimbayeva defeated fourth seed Italian Gioia Barbieri in straight sets 6-2 6-2.
