CHANDIGARH, OCT 17 : Well-drilled Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 36 and never-say-die St Stephen’s School, Sector 45 set up the title clash in the Chandigarh Sub-Junior (Boys) Championship for Coca Cola Mir Iqbal Hussain Trophy at the Sector 17 Football Ground here today. The final will be played tomorrow at 10.30 a.m.
GMSSS-36 team, having Chandigarh Administration-run Chandigarh Football Academy players in their line-up, virtually had a practice round in the semi-final against St Xavier’s School, Sector 44. The Administration’s Residential Academy players outplayed and outclassed their rivals in all departments of the game to register a cakewalk 13-0 triumph.
Earlier, St Stephen’s School defeated St John’s School, Sector 26 by 2-0 in the first semi-final encounter. The teams played a goalless draw in the first half. However, Stephen’s had a better say on resumption and scored two goals to take their appointed place in the final.
Stephen’s had to wait for 35 minutes to score their first goal. Chirag initiated the move as his shot travelled to Suresh after hitting a St John’s defender. Suresh capitalized on the rebound to give his team the lead.
St Stephen’s School confirmed the lead in the 55th minute. Speedy Rishab Vashisht floated a centre from the right flank to Chirag who trapped it and passed the ball to Anirudh who did not make any mistake to score from close and sealed the fate of St John’s in the tournament.
Later Government Model Senior Secondary School-36 were expected to dominate against St Xavier’s School. The CFA players proved better in all fields. They were stronger and robust, skilful and sharp shooters against Xavier’s players.
Govt Model-36 camped inside the rival territory and scored goals at will. With short ground passes, they unleashed their onslaught from the word go.
Ramdinn (39th, 41st and 49th), Daniel (12th, 15th), Lalramzauva (13th, 41st), Samuel (23rd, 34th), Nishu (37th, 48th, 55th ) and Mohit (53rd) were the goal-getters for the powerful winners
