CHANDIGARH, OCT 6 : Hosts Saint Soldier International School, Sector 28 exhibited their skill and retained trophy on the concluding day of the CBSE Cluster XIII Football Championship for the Northern region here today. In the final match Saint Soldier, defeated Shishu Niketan, Sector 22 by 1-0.
Shubkarman Singh steered the team to victory by converting a free kick from 35 yards in the 35th minute. Star player Sumit Dhankar of Saint Soldier won the trophy for the best scorer of the tournament. In the semi-final matches, St Soldier defeated S.D Public School, Sector 32 by 2-0. Sumit Dhankar (12th) and Edwin Jones (20th) got one goal each.
Shishu Niketan routed J.K Public School, Jammu by 4-0. Jigmet (15th, 35th) and Kansam (40th and 45th ) contributed two goals each. St. Soldier and Shishu Niketan have clinched their place for participation in the National Games to be held in December this year.
S.D Public School, Sector 32 bagged the third position by defeating J. K Public School, Jammu by 3-1. Former Union Railway Ministerhe Pawan Kumar Bansal congratulated the school for organising the tournament. The closing was marked by a colourful Bharatnatyam dance presentation which enthralled the audience
