CHANDIGARH, JULY 26 : St John’s School, Sector 26, DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, Delhi Public School, Sector 40 and St Stephen’s School, Sector 45qualified for the semi-finals of the Chandigarh Inter-School Football Tournament for boys under-17 being organized by the Education Department here today.
At the Sector 42 Sports Complex, St John’s prevailed over Strawberry Field School, Sector 26 by 2-1 in the quarter-final encounter.
It was Strawberry School which drew the first blood as Ekamber scored with a fine drive. On resumption, St John’s mounted relentless pressure and got two goals within a span of five minutes. First Akhil neutralized the lead in the 40th minute and five minutes later Deepak clinched the match-winner.
In the second quarter-final match, St Stephen’s School defeated Saupin’s School, Sector 32 by 5-2. Kanwar gave Saupin’s School lead by scoring in the
23rd minute. Stunned with the reverse, St Stephen’s swung into action and neutralized the lead through Teg Pratap who scored in the 27th minute. One minute later, St Stephen’s forged ahead through Chirag who performed a three-in-a-row feat. His next two goals came in the 40th and 50th minute. Teg Pratap got his second goal in the 53rd minute to complete the rout of Saupin’s. In between Saupin’s scored their second goal through Aryaman in the 48th minute.
At the G.M.S.S. School ground in Sector 22A , Delhi Public School, Sector 40 dominated the show as they outplayed Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 35 by 4-0.
Gurkaran (7th), Himmat (29th), Gurkaran (37th) and Ritwik (52nd) contributed a goal each.
In the fourth quarter-final match,D.A.VSS, Sector 8 defeated St. Xavier’s School, Sector 44 by 3-0. Rohit Thakur (25th), Nitin Bhandari (29th) and Kamal (46th) scored one goal each for the winners.
