Chandigarh, January 2 : As many as 28 Payka training centres and 27 village level training centres have been set up in district Kurukshetra under panchayat youth sports scheme of Government of India. Sports material worth Rs one lakh had been provided to each training centre.
While stating this today, District Sports and Youth Affairs Officer Mr Sultan Singh said that a sports akademi had been set up at village Amin. Rs 2000 per month were given to each player in this akademi.Monthly pension of Rs 5000 was being given to five Arjuna awardees and five Dronacharya awardees of the district. A hostel for sportsperson was being constructed at a cost of Rs 1.41 lakh at Markandeshwar Hockey Stadium Shahbad. The hostel would accommodate 80 sports women.
Construction work of Rajiv Gandhi sports complexes had been completed at village Amin in Thanesar block, village Khaira in Ladwa block, village Soodpur in Shahbad block, at village Bir Kalwa in Babain block and village Bakhli in Pehowa block. Now training was being imparted to the sportspersons at these stadiums, he added.
He said that a mini sports stadium had been constructed at a cost of Rs 14 lakh at village Gudha in Ladwa block. In addition to it, mini stadia had also been constructed at village Kalal Majra in Babain block and Chanderbhan Pura in Thanesar block. A wrestling hall had also been constructed at Umri at a cost of Rs 35 lakh. A judo hall had also been constructed at Dronacharya stadium at a cost of Rs 33 lakh. A sum of Rs ten lakh would be spent on the modernisation of badminton hall.
