17 June:Dr. M.S Gill, Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports made a field visit to Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range to review the progress of construction work for the 2010 Commonwealth Games here today. During the visit to 71 acres National Shooting Range located opposite to Tuglakabad Fort , Dr Gill held detailed discussions with the officials of the Sports ministry, Sports Authority of India (SAI), CPWD , Organising Committee and National Rifle Association about the construction of shooting ranges . During meeting, Dr Gill instructed the engineers associated with the project to start construction immediately so as to enable Indian shooters to practice on new ranges by June 2009 to have home advantage.
He also told to engineers that the construction phases should be planned in such a way so that it does not interfere with current coaching and practice. Commenting about the progress after the meeting, Dr Gill said " SAI is to be complemented for the forestation done in the area and its good upkeep . The construction plans already approved in Jan 2008 worth Rs 65 crore to make the ranges fit for the Commonwealth Games and other world level competition were examined in the meeting . I will be regularly visiting construction work every two months to see the actual progress at the field level."
