CHANDIGARH, June 12 :A sparkling century by Amit Prashar (241, 219 balls, 9x6s, 25x4s) helped Chandigarh piled up a mammoth total of 495 for 4 in stipulated 95 overs against Mohali in the Punjab Inter-District Cricket Tournament for Katoch Shield here today.
After having won the toss, Mohali skipper Harpreet Sunny invited Chandigarh to bat first. Leading the charge one drop Amit Prashar scored a scintillating double century. He was in such an awesome form that he scored the second hundred in just 45 balls with the help of five sixes and 11 boundaries.
Chandigarh started the innings with Sarul Kanwar and Vishwas Bhalla who were associated in an opening stand of 83 runs before Vishwas Bhalla got out for 20 runs. Sarul Kanwar at this stage was joined by Amit Prashar and the duo went on to stitch a second wicket partnership of 146 runs when Sarul Kanwar got out after completing a stroke filled century (120) off 161 balls studded with 12x4s and 2 huge sixes.
Mohali bowlers were in for more grind when Gurkirat Walia joined Amit Prashar who was in a punishing mood and the two rattled up 248 runs for the third wicket in which the contribution of Gurkirat Walia was 55 off 84 balls. Uday Kaul also joined the run riot with an undefeated cameo of 30 runs.
Left Arm Spinner Varun Khanna bore the brunt of assault as he was hammered for 110 runs of 23 overs for one wicket. Sunny Sohal, Mayank Siddana and Harpreet Chatha also chipped in with one wicket each.
In the second match played in Jalandhar, Jaladhar scored 439 for 8 in 95 overs, having elected to bat after winning the toss. They were helped in their cause by Taruwar Kohli and Love Kumar Singh, both of whom scored centuries. The duo was associated in a stand of 193 runs for fifth wicket. Taruwar Kohli, who had played for India in Under-19 World Cup, scored 122 runs off 205 balls inclusive off 15x5s while Love Kumar Singh was more fluent in getting to his 114 off 115 balls studded with 18x4s and two lofty sixes. Abhishek Gupta also chipped in with unbeaten knock of 48 off 51 balls aided with 4 boundaries. Left Arm Spinner Arjun was the pick of the Kapurthala Bowlers scalping 3 for 88.
In the third match played at Ludhiana, Ludhiana won the toss and elected to field. Their decision paid rich dividends as they bundled out star studded Patiala District for 262 in 85.5 overs. Patiala innings was propped up by Ravi Inder Singh who was the highest run getter 83 off 155 balls inclusive of 10x4s. Other contributions came from Rupitinder Singh (35), Mohit Mohindra (33) and ankur Jund (30) The bowling honurs for Ludhiana were shared by Karan Goel 4/56 and Varun Verma 3/56.
In the fourth match played in Amritsar, Amritsar after having won the toss and electing to bat posted a healthy total of 446 for 8 in 95 overs against Bathinda. They were helped in their cause by an unbeaten 100 (115) by Sharad Lumba off 132 balls studded with 13 x4s and 2x6s. Chandan Madan 93 off 101 balls with 14x4s , Rahul Mattoo 86, Vipan Chauhan 48, Charanjit 37 were the other notable contributors. Rahul Mattoo and Chandan madan were associated in a 3rd wicket partnership of 168 runs while Sharad Lumba and Charanjit stitched a partnership of 109 runs for 7 th wicket. Pawan Dabas 3/146 was the main wicket takers for Bathinda.
