27 August : Former President of India Abdul Kalam on Tuesday received an Honorary Degree of Engineering from Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University for his contributions in improving India-Singapore relations.
"The honorary degree is conferred in recognition of Kalam’s life long achievements in the service of India, his international reputation in science and technology and his contributions to the improvement of India-Singapore relations," the University spokesman said.
The conferment of the degree, given to him by Singapore’s President and Chancellor of the University S R Nathan, is seen as a major boost to the growing academic partnership between the two countries, sources said.
The former president is to leave for Malaysia on Wednesday where he will deliver the Khazana lecture.
