The India Post, Chandigarh 30th January, 2009 : ‘Silk Mark Expo-2009’ an exhibition-cum-sale of Exclusive Silk Products commenced today at Kisan Bhavan, Sector 35. Adviser to the UT Administrator, Mr. Pradip Mehra inaugurated the five day expo and took round of the expo. As many as 53 exhibitors from 12 states are participating in the expo. The Fair is being organized by the Silk Mark Organisation of India (SMOI) in collaboration with the Chandigarh Administration.
On the occasion, Mr. Mehra said that this was an appropriate time to conduct this expo as the economy is facing global meltdown. These types of Expos, showcasing imaginative products, would generate revenue and have a benevolent effect on the economy. He appreciated the efforts put in by the SMOI for making the ‘Silk Mark-your Assurance of Pure Silk’ globally known.
Special Secretary Finance, Ms. Raji P Shrivastava on the occasion said that this is a treat for discerning Silk Lovers of the city. The expo not only, creates consumer awareness but also endorse weaver empowerment, stated Ms. Shrivastava.
CEO, SMOI, Mr. K. Sukumar Menon in his keynote address disclosed that India produces about 19,000 tonnes of Silk and is second largest producer of Silk in the world. The Silk Industry provides employment to around 6 million people in the country, added Mr. Menon.
The objective of the Expo is to globalize the Silk Mark and build trust among the consumers. The mark will provide assurance that the Silk bought is of good quality and pure.
The Silk Mark Expo is bringing all variety of Silk Sarees and products under one roof and that too with assured quality and purity.
