CHANDIGARH, APRIL 15 : Mohali U-16 team openers Shubman Gill and Nirmal Singh set the stand ablaze by cobbling up 587 runs stand for the first wicket in 109.2 overs against Amritsar U-16 on the first day of their-three day match in the M.L Markan Trophy at MCM Ground in Mohali today.
Winning the toss Mohali skiper Shubman Gill opted to bat. He in the company of Nirmal Singh went on to blast the Amritsar attack to all parts of the ground. Shubman Gill reached his triple century (351) off just 272 balls studded with 49 well executed boundaries and two towering sixes.
He eventually fell to medium pacer Amit Sharma who induced an edge from him to wicket keeper Shobit with the team score reading 587 in 109.2 overs .
The other opener Nirmal Singh however remained unbeaten on 231 off 335 balls inclusive of 32 x4. This was the highest opening partnership recorded for Punjab any age group competition. Mohali were 593 for 1 in 112 overs at close of 1st day play. Amit Sharma 1 for 55 was the lone successful bowler for Amritsar.

In the second match played at Dhruv Pandove Cricket Stadium in Patiala, Ropar winning the toss and deciding to bat were 253 for 6 in 104 overs at close of first day’s play.
Ishan Goel and Gagan Verma put on 75 runs for the first wicket in 32.2 overs before Ishan Goel was castled by Abhishek Verma for 30. Resham Sharma 55 off 48 balls with 7 X 4 and 2X6 and Navpreet Singh unbeaten 51 off 128 balls with 7 X4 were the other notable contributors with the bat. Resham Sharma and Navpreet Singh added 77 runs for the 6th wicket. Abhishek Verma (3 for 44) was the main wicket taker for Patiala.

In the third match played at Jalandhar Chandigarh batting first against Jalandhar were bowled out for 177 in 80.1 overs. Talveen Singh unbeaten 57 inclusive of 10 x4 , Mandeep Singh Mann 29 with 3 x4 were the most successful batsman for Chandigarh. Kulwinder Singh (5 for 40) and Prerit Dutta (2 for 52) were the most successful bowler for Jalandhar.
In reply Jalandhar were 19 for no loss in 12 overs at close of first day play.
