Delegates from Indian Medical Association, Chandigarh Branch and Medical Officers of Health Department, Chandigarh Administration were addressed by experts from Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi, PGIMER, GMCH-32, GMSH-16 and members of IMA, Chandigarh Branch on contraceptive scenario in India, critical component of quality care services of contraceptive, hormonal contraceptive, barrier methods, female/male sterilization, Intra Uterine Contraceptive Devices, newer techniques of insertion and medical eligibility criteria for Copper-T 380-A were stressed. The advantages of Cu-T 380-A was stressed upon by bringing about awareness regarding the usage of Cu-T 380-A as a method of permanent contraceptive. If changed once or twice during the reproductive phase of the women it provides adequate protection. Also the use of IUD as an emergency contraceptive was elaborated. Dr. Sikdar also pointed out that there is need to involve the male participants for contraceptive by increasing the acceptance for Vasectomy (Male sterilization) by no scalpel method and also informed the increased indicators & acceptors money for vasectomy
