India has ushered in the epoch of politico economic emancipation with breakneck speed, wherein the nation is undergoing this unearthing of cultural and social change with connotations in foreign relations, rural urban development, science and technological abreast, etc. However, the term development is yet to carve a niche for itself as there are miring issues in the areas of economic development, women empowerment, youth sustainability etc.
The yardstick of development in a nation is measured by the equal participation of its citizenry; hence forth, the skewed sex ratio and up surging criminal activities against women showcase the exalting status of women in India; whereby, narrowing the dimensions of the term development.
Such bottlenecks in the social fabric arise the need and urgency for self-defence in women as an imperative. Carmel Convent School, Chandigarh a torch bearer of the Apostolic Carmel Educational Society of Carmel Convent School which began the peregrination of women empowerment 1959 in India discerning through the channels of literacy; under the prudence of the Principal Sr.Maria Swati A.C. took an initiative to inculcate the tactics of self-defence in its students through a 4 day workshop “Mission Prahar” conducted by Grand Master Shifuji. Grandmaster Shifuji is a warrior monk 32nd generation of Shaolin Warrior Monks from the Shaolin Temple headed by Da Shifuji Dehi De Yang ; also is the only Indian of the generation to be trained under the aegis of the great D Shifu Grand Master Shi De Yang . Is also the world’s best commando trainer (since 2008) and Chief Commando Master for National Security Guards, Black Cat, and the Army. He also imparts training in the Bolly Wood Action Movies, as an action director.
The workshop commenced from 24.11.2014 to 27.11.2014, wherein, the girls were trained in a self-defence programme scientifically arranged with well graded series of exercises for achieving physical agility and self –defence skills to protect themselves in unforeseen circumstances.
The perception and role of women in present India are formed by traditions, hence the nature and role of women in society is presented by the great heterogeneity, divergence and multiple paradoxical phenomenon. Amidst this societal alteration , Carmel Convent School , Chandigarh under the aegis of the Principal Sr.Maria Swati A.C. took an initiative to promote empowerment in women through the dimensions of awareness generation in them, as women are a source of strength with an embodiment of Dharma and Karma.
