CHANDIGARH, NOV 2 : Punjab under-19 started their campaign for the Cooch-Behar Trophy in a commanding fashion by skittling out JKCA for 195 on the first day of their four-day match being played at Dhruv Pandove Stadium in Patiala.
Winning the toss and opting to field Punjab met with their first success when medium pacer Jagjit Singh induced an edge from Suryansh Raina to the wicket keeper Anmol Malhotra for 19 with the score reading 43. Then Punjab struck three quick blows to reduce JKCA to 71 for 4 in 15.2 overs.
A 42 runs partnership for the 5th wicket between Shubham Pundir (42) and Mohd. Bhatt (29) saw the team reach the total of 113. Thereafter wickets kept on falling at regular intervals and only Surya Malhotra 37 and Abid Mushtaq unbeaten 21 could show some symbolic resistance. J&k were finally bowled out for 195 in 54 overs.
Left Arm spinner Karan Bhargav was the pick of the Punjab bowlers picking up 5 wickets for 44. He was ably supported by Jagjit Singh who bagged 2 for 44. Punjab lost their opener Karan Sharma for 14 but then Sanvir Singh and Mansab Gill put on 99 runs for the second wicket before Sanvir Singh was caught by S.Mahotra off S.Pundir for 85 off 89 balls with 17 boundaries and one six.
Mansab Gill unbeaten 37 and Anmolpreet Singh unbeaten 43 put on 85 runs for the unbroken 3rd wicket to take Punjab’s total to 184 for 2 in 40 overs at close of first days play. Irshad Ahmd 1 for 25, and S.Pundir 1 for 19 were the two successful bowlers for JKCA.
