JALANDHAR, OCT 9 : Young side of Punjab State Power Corp Ltd from Patiala beat Corps of Signals of Jalandhar by 4-3 in the inaugural match of the 30th Servo IndianOil Surjit Hockey Tournament at the Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium here this evening.
Both teams display good and calculated hockey. In the 5th minute of the play PSPCL opened their account with a field goal by Ravinder Singh (1-0). In the 16th minute Manpreet Singh consolidated the lead with a field goal (2-0). Three minutes before half time Signal’s K S Rana converted a penalty stroke to reduce the margin (1-2).
In the very next minute PSPCL’s Ravinder Singh struck once again (3-1). At half time PSPCL were leading by 3-1.
Four minutes after resumption Signals mounted pressure and scored through a penalty conversion by Rahul Kumar (2-3). In the 60th minute of the play Manpreet Singh of PSPCL netted the ball from right flank (4-2). In the dying minutes of the game Signals captian G Dass reduced the margin with field goal (3-4) but were not able to equalize.
