INDORE, NOV 20 : Wild card entrant N. Vijay Sundar Prashanth turned an early deficit into profit by winning the next two sets as he snuffed out the challenge of qualifier Akash Wagh in three sets 6-7(2) 6-1 6-3 in the pre-quarter-final in the singles competitions in $ 15,000 ITF Men’s Futures Tennis Tournament here today.
Prashanth will now challenge sixth seed Karunuday Singh (Ind) who eliminated Jatin Dahiya in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
Top seeded Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and eighth seed Ramkumar Ramanathan moved into quarter-final round by scoring victories in contrasting styles. Jeevan had a smooth sailing against Abdullah Shaikh whom he beat in straight sets by 6-3, 6-2.
At another court, Ramkumar Ramanathan bounced back into the with vengeance against Markos Kalovelonis of Greece. Ramkumar lost the first well-contested set in tie-breaker at 6-7 (5). Despite this loss, Ramkumar was not disappointed. He reorganized him game and played at consistent level to win the next two sets by 6-3, 6-2.
Ramkumar will another tough round as he faces top seed Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan in the quarter-final match.
Second seed N Sriram Balaji, third seed Jung-Woong Na of Korea, David Pel of Netherlands and Vishnu Vardhan also advanced to the round of eight in singles. Vishnu Vardhan ousted Jui-Chen Hung (Tpe) 6-2 6-3 while David Pel upset seventh seed Daniiar Duldaev (Kgz) 6-4, 6-4.
