PGIMER has been judged as the second best institute for medical education in India amongst ten best Institutes. As a hospitalPGIMER has been graded the second best amongst the top fifteen multi-speciality hospitals in India and also amongst the five Best Government Multi-speciality Hospitals in India by The Week-NIELSEN BEST HOSPITALS SURVEY 2013 published in The Week. The cover story of the latest issue (November 24, 2013) of the weekly magazine THE WEEK is about the ‘BEST HOSPITALS’ in India with ‘HI-TECH CARE’. The specialities of Paediatrics and Diabetology in PGIMER have been rated as second best where as those of Neurology and Cardiology as third best. Oncology and Ophthalmology have been rated as fifth and sixth respectively. It has also been rated first amongst eight best multi-speciality hospitals in Chandigarh. Other hospitals are : Fortis Hospital (second), Max Hospital (third), Mukat Hospital & Heart Institute (fourth), Ivy Hospital (fifth), Shivalik Hospital & Trauma Centre (sixth), Inscol Hospital (seventh) and Government Medical College and Hospital (eighth).
Other multi-speciality hospitals amongst the top 15 are: AIIMS, New Delhi (first), CMC Vellore (third), Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, (fourth), Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai (fifth), JIPMER, Puducherry (sixth), Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, Delhi (seventh), Medanta, The Medicity, Gurgaon (eighth), Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow (ninth), PD Hinduja National Hospital & Medical Research Centre, Mumbai (tenth), Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi (eleventh), Jaslok Hospital, Mumbai (twelfth), Manipal Hospital Bangalore (thirteenth), Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad (fourteenth) and Max Hospitals, Delhi (fifteenth).
The survey was conducted across top multi-speciality hospitals in 15 cities. The leaders in specializations such as cardiology, neurology, oncology, paediatrics etc. were also found out.
