Chandigarh : In recognition of significant contribution for the advancement of medical sciences two faculty members of PGI, Chandigarh Dr. S.K.Singh, Professor of Urology and Dr. Dheeraj Gupta, Professor of Pulmonary Medicine were awarded Fellow of National Academy of Medical Sciences (India) at The 52ndAnnual conference of the NAMS held at Tamil Nadu MGR Medical University, Chennai. The function was presided over by Shri K Rosaiah Governor of Tamil Nadu, and Prof K K Talwar, Chairman Medical council of India. This fellowship is awarded to person who stands out among peers in the profession as a person of distinction for their reputation and exemplary contribution at national and international level.
Three faculty members were awarded membership of National Academy of Medical Sciences for their distinguished work. Dr.Deepak Bansal, Additional Professor, Department of Paediatric Medicine was awarded the prestigious membership for his work in Paediatric Haematology & Oncology. Dr.Kusum Sharma, Associate Professor, Department of Medical Microbiology was awarded the same for research in the area of molecular diagnosis of tuberculosis especially extrapulmonary tuberculosis like intraocular, osteoarticular tuberculosis and tuberculous meningitis. Dr Mini P Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Virology was awarded the membership for her research on cervical cancer caused by human papilloma virus, viral infections of the eye and viral hepatitis.
