The Organ Donation Awareness Campaign at the New OPD Block under the auspices of the Organ Transplantation Trust drew an enthusiastic response from the public on its inauguration today collecting more than 70 pledges for organ donation in one day itself.
The Director PGIMER took the lead in signing the pledge form. He was followed by members of the PGIMER organ transplantation team and the general public.The Organ Transplantation Trust not only collected signatures and pledges but also distributed organ donor cards and answered queries regarding the concept of brain death and the procedure of organ transplantation from such donors. In addition an informative and inspiring documentary on the issues regarding organ donation was screened. This documentary with interviews of recipients of deceased donor kidney transplants at PGIMER highlighted the enormous impact on the lives of patients with organ failure that the decision to donate organs can make.
Two of these recipients also interacted with the public providing useful information regarding the difference in the pre and post transplant lives. Many individuals were inspired by their testimony and pledged their organs for transplantation.
The awareness campaign is planned till the end of the week on the 17th September. On the penultimate day a painting competition has been organized on the theme of organ donation.
