12 May : A new Image Guided radiotherapy system, which would reduce treatment time of cancer and spare healthy tissue has been introduced for the first time in India.The newly introduced Trilogy system would allow doctors to treat a variety of patients suffering from different types of cancer, officials at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai said.
Doctors would be able to use the real time image data to modify a patient’s treatment and would be able to address the issue of tumour movement, usually caused by breathing, they said.
The therapy could be used to treat different kinds of solid tumours and also in cases of leukemia and lymphoma, hospital authorities added.
