The website of the dept www.nephropgi.org was launched by Prof K S Chugh, Emeritus Prof PGI during the CME on Nephrology Updates and Controversies organized by Department of Nephrology, PGIMER. The CME was attended by over 150 Nephrologists all over the country, which included all the stalwarts in the field of Nephrology in India. The recent developments in the field of Nephrology, dialysis and transplantation were discussed. These included advances in the field of vasculitis by Prof Ramdas from Trivandrum, Newer strategies in the management of renal transplant rejection by Dr Vijay Kher, Chairman, Nephrology, Medanta Mediciti, Gurgaon. Management of hepatitis C in renal transplant recipients was discussed by Prof SK Agarwal. HOD Nephrology, AIIMS, New Delhi, Cross match techniques was lucidly described by Prof RK Sharma, Director, SGPGIMS, Lucknow. An interesting session on Interventional nephrology was conducted by Dr Valentine Lobo from Pune and Dr Mukesh Yadav from PGI, Management issues in peritoneal dialysis were also discussed.
Controversial issues in the field of nephrology with many brain storming sessions included prevention of diabetic nephropathy, intensification of dialysis in the Indian cohort and management issues in Lupus nephritis. Prof Vinay Sakhuja, Director MSSH, Mohali spoke on recovery of patients with acute kidney injury. There was an interesting description of newer entity IgG4 related disease by Dr Raja Ramachandran. The CME was concluded by teaching session on radiology and renal pathology by faculty of PGIMER, Chandigarh.
