Jagpreet Sandhu ,Chandigarh : The 4th National Conference cum Workshop of Indian Hernia Society was inaugurated by Prof. S.S. Gill Vice Chancellor of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Punjab. In his inaugural address Prof. S.S. Gill emphasized on the need of such Continuing Medical Education Programmes for learning new techniques the field of Surgery.
Prof. Raj Bahadur Director Principal, Govt. Medical College & Hospital, Chandigarh, while welcoming the chief guest enumerated the various academic activities of the Department of Surgery. He also emphasized that, new procedures & techniques must be shown to the post graduate students and practicing surgeons in live workshops, to make them familiar with the exact method of doing them.
Prof. A.K. Attri HOD, Department of Surgery, Govt. Medical College & Hospital, Chandigarh, told the audience about learning curve and necessity to learn Hernia surgery from very beginning.
Prof. S.D. Maurya President Indian Hernia Society emphasized on the need of establishing skill centers at various Medical Institutes to train the surgeons in the field of minimal access surgery.
Dr. Varinder Bansal, Secretary Indian Hernia Society highlighted the achievements of the society in last one year.
Prof. M.C. Mishra from AIIMS released the soveniour.
Dr. Ashwani Dalal Organizing Secretary of the conference proposed the vote of thanks. In the forenoon session of the conference cum workshop live hernia surgeries were demonstrated by Prof S.D. Maurya, Prof. Munir Khan, Prof V.K. Bansal & Prof. P. Lal.
In the afternoon session Prof. S.D. Maurya delivered an oration on laparoscopic incisional hernia repair.
Prof. Rajinder Prashad from AIIMS, New Delhi delivered the Indian Hernia Society Oration.
A debate on Open Vs Laparoscopic Groin Hernia Repair was held which on focused evidenced based facts. Dr. Anil Gandhi from Singapore and Dr. V.K. Bansal from AIIMS participated in the debate.
Prof. M.C. Misra spoke on two types of groin hernia repair by laparoscopic technique.
Dr. Rajesh Shah from Ahemdabad spoke on medico legal expect of hernia surgery.
Dr. Amit Srivastav from Agra spoke on anatomical aspect of inguinal hernia repair by laparoscopic technique.
The conference cum workshop was attended by more than 130 delegates from all over India.
