CII’s Young Indians (Yi) Chandigarh Tricity chapter in association with Lok Sabha Member of Parliament from Kendrapara, Mr Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda and the Bharti Institute of Public Policy, Indian School of Business organized a full day Public Policy workshop at ISB’s Campus, here today.
“There is a dire and urgent need to bring in parliamentary reforms in order to avoid deadlocks on the house floor on various crucial issues and bills, if our nation has to progress fast like UK & the US”, emphasised Mr Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda, MP, Lok Sabha.
“I urge the youth to take keen interest and play a far more pro-active role in today’s politics and various socio – political processes. It is only with youth’s participation that India’s problems can be solved and we can bring about the necessary change in the system”, he further highlighted.
“The youth is angry with the way, things are progressing in our nation, so we are holding such workshops to meet with young entrepreneurs, young professionals, intellectuals, industrialists, students and academicians from across the country who want to do something for the nation but do not know how. Our aim is to discuss and implement certain small systematic changes and tools which can bring about a lot of change in near future”, informed the MP.
“Today’s workshop at Mohali was 3rd in the series, after Delhi and Bhubaneswar. Pune and Bangalore are next in line”, he shared.
“CII’s Yi focuses on nation building and being voice of the Young Indians Globally. Today’s Public Policy workshop was meant to provide a platform for youngsters to develop an understanding of important policy issues, the role of Members of Parliament, the working of a political office, approaches to public policy, opportunities in the field and ways for citizens to engage with elected representatives.”, said Mr Robin Aggarwal, Chairman, Yi Chandigarh Tricity chapter. Young Indians (Yi) which is an integral part of CII was formed with an objective of creating a platform for young Indians to realise the dream of a developed nation.
The Bharti Institute of Public Policy is one of the four institutes at ISB’s Mohali campus. One of its mandates is to engage with stakeholders and inform policy formulation and implementation, particularly in developing country settings. This policy workshop provided a platform for the Institute to reach out to citizens, especially in the tri-city area.
The workshop also saw a session on the dynamics of interaction between the legislature and the executive. The discussants for the session were Ms Vini Mahajan, IAS, Principal Secretary to the Government of Punjab and Mr Baijayant “Jay” Panda.
The one day workshop focused on subjects like ‘Understanding governance better: Our Constitutional structure’, ‘Policy making, the MP and Parliament’ and ‘The MP and his people’, systemic and institutional reforms in parliament, the judiciary and the administration.
Over 100 participants from diverse backgrounds including attended the workshop.
