Chandigarh : Two research papers from Pediatrics Dept. GMSH 16 Chandigarh have been awarded second and third prize at the recently concluded 14th National Conference of Indian Academy of Pediatrics, Respiratory Chapter ( Respicon ) at PGIMER, Chandigarh. Department of pediatrics, GMSH conducted research on common respiratory ailments in children which was presented as E-poster at the conference. Subject of the paper were “Predictive value of Pediatric Asthma severity scoring index in exacerbation in children” and “Utility of hypertonic saline nebulisation in Acute Bronchiolitis in infants”.
In the study of Bronchial Asthma 136 patients were evaluated and assessed for severity of acute asthma by a new scoring system which was innovatively derived by the dept. The study conducted that this new score is highly predictive of severity of acute asthma and it helps in better evaluation and management of acute exacerbation of asthma.This study was awarded the second prize.
Second study was conducted in infants with Acute Bronchiolitis which is a common respiratory tract viral infection in first two years of life. One hundred children were evaluated for efficacy of hypertonic saline nebulisation in acute bronchiolitis.Hypertonic saline nebulisation is postulated to help in better clearance of mucus from inflamed airways.This study was awarded the third prize.
