CHANDIGARH, SEPT 22 : India finished sixth with 23 points in freestyle, 19th in Greco-Roman with 8 points and 30th in women freestyle with one point in the World Wrestling Championship in Budapest. Greco- Roman style Indian wrestler Sandeep Tulsi Yadav made history by winning bronze medal in 66 kg weight category. This is the first medal an Indian has won in Greco Roman style in Senior World Wrestling Championship.
In the elimination round, Sandeep got bye. In the second round he defeated Spanish wrestler Navarro Sanchez Isamel by 5-0 points. The next round was with the Moldova Wrestler Cosniceanu Mihali and again he won the bout by 6-2 points. Unfortunately, in the next bout with the Korean wrestler Ryu Han Su he lost by 0-10 (technical fall). Since the Korean wrestler entered in the final and he got the chance for winning bronze medal and qualified for the repacheges.
In the repeacheges round, he defeated Sweden wrestler Vardanyan Shrur by 6-4 and qualified for the final bout for the bronze medal. In the final bout of the bronze, Sandeep Tulsi Yadav again defeated Serbian Wrestler Makismovic Aleksandar by 4-0 and bagged bronze medal for the country.
It is first time, when Indian won 3 medals [1 silver and 2 bronze medals] in Senior World Wrestling Championship.
Earlier, Amit Kumar had clinched silver medal in 55 kg freestyle. In the first round he got bye. In the second round, he defeated Japanese Yasuhiro Inaba by 10-2 points. In the next round, he defeated Frances Zoheir Elo Arraque by 8-0 points and qualified for the quarter-final. In the quarter-final round he defeated American Agelo Alesmo Escobedo by 6-0 points and qualified for semi-final. Again in the semi-final round, he defeated Turkish wrestler Sezar Akgul by 8-0 points and qualified for final. Unfortunately, in the final, he lost the bout to Iranian wrestler Rahimi Hassan Farma by 1-2 points and won silver medal.
On the second day of the meet, Bajrang gave India bronze medal in 60 kg in freestyle category.In the qualification round, he lost the bout to Bulgarian Vladimirov Vladimir Dubov. As the Bulgarian wrestler reached in final,. Bajrang got the chance for winning bronze medal in by entering repeachges round where he put up a remarkable performance and won bronze medal.
In the first bout of the repeachges round, he defeated Japanese Shogo Maeda by 5-0 points. The next bout was with Romanian Ivan Guidea whom he defeated by 10-3 points and qualified for the final of the bronze medal. In the final, he defeated Mongolian Naym Ochir Enkhsaikhan by 9-2 points.
