CHANDIGARH, DEC 5:Top seeded Rituparna Das of Andhra Pradesh claimed a double title by winning the girls Under-19 singles and girls under-19 doubles finals in the 38th Junior National Badminton Championship-2013 conducted by the Chandigarh Badminton Association at the Panjab University Gymnasium here today.
Aditya Joshi of Air India and Daniel Farid of Karnataka claimed the boys under-19 and under-17 singles titles respectively.
Second seed Ruthvika Shivani G of Andhra Pradesh bagged the girls under-17 crown as she took just 29 minutes to dispose of the challenge of top seed Karishma Wadkar of Maharashtra by 21-19 21-14 in the final.
Ruthvika, however, fell to top seeded Rituparna Das, also from Andhra Pradesh in the girls under-19 singles final. Displaying consistency in her serve and smashes, Rituparna Das defeated third seed Ruthvika Shivani G. by 21-14 21-7.
Rituparna, partnering Meghana J. of Andhra Pradesh rallied to overcome a stiff challenge from Vaishnavi Iyer (Maharashtra) and Reshma Karthik (Air India) by 17-21 21-9 21-12 in the girls under-19 doubles final. The exciting match lasted 44 minutes.
After losing the first game, second seed Aditya Joshi of Air India staged a fine rally to prevail over third seeded Arun George of Kerala in three well-contested sets 18-21 21-12 21-14 in the boys under-19 singles final.
Fifth seeded pair of Arjun M. R of Kerala and Chirag Shetty (Maharashtra) toppled the top seeded pair of Shlok Ramchandran and Sanyam Shukla (Air India) 21-12 19-21 22-20 in the boys under-19 final.
Top seed Daniel Farid S. of Karnataka did not face any tough challenge in beating ninth seed Sankeerth B. R. of Karnataka by 21-11 21-14 in the boys under-17 singles final.
Rohan Kapoor of Delhi, pairing with Haryana’s Saurabh Sharma defeated third seeded Kapil Chaudhry and Chandrabhushan Tripathi (Uttar Pradesh) 21-10 21-16 in the boys under-17 doubles final.
