February 19: Haryana emerged as the overall champion and Tamil Nadu remained the runners-up at the fourth National Level Basket Ball and Wrestling Competition held under Panchayat Yuva Krida Aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA) and concluded at Sirsa today.
On the closing ceremony of the competition, State Minister for Home, Industries and Local Bodies Mr. Gopal Kanda gave away prizes to the winners and congratulated the players of Haryana on becoming overall champion.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kanda said that like every time, this financial year also, Haryana has won the overall championship in all the groups in the PYKA games. He said that Haryana has got a total 63 points and Tamil Nadu who reamed runners-up got 52 points. The tournament of first group of PYKA this year was organized in Tumkur in Karnataka, Second Group in Chennai of Tamilnadu, third group in Siliguri in West Bengal, fourth group in Aurangabad of Maharashtra, fifth in Ranchi of Jharkahand and sixth group in Haryana. By winning first position in all these competitions, the players of Haryana have brought laurels to the State. On behalf of the State Government, he congratulated the players for this achievement.
Mr. Kanda said that under this scheme, a sum of Rs. 20.70 crore was being spent in Haryana during this financial year.
