CHANDIGARH, March 1 :Gursharandeep Singh of Punjabi University of Patiala cliamed top honours in the 100 km Road Mass Start Race of the All India Inter-Varsity Cycling Championship, organized by Panjab University Chandigarh, between Neelon and Doraha along the Sirhind canal. He covered the energy-consuming distance in 2::32:45.202. Gurbaj Singh (Panjab University) and Ram Saroop Jhakar (Bikaner University) finished second and third, respectively.
The winners of the championship were honoured at a prize distribution function at Dr.Ishwar Singh Memorial Hall of Guru Nanak National College Doraha.Principal Dr Narinder Singh Sidhu presented prizes to the winners and declared the meet closed. Charanjit Singh Grewal,Director , Sports,Panjab University ,C handigarh, apart from distributing prizes and congratulating the winners, exhorted them to strive still further to achieve their destined goals.
Director Jaswant Singh Gill and Prof Balwant Singh Pangali, general secretary college Management committee,Dr Rakesh Malik,Assistant Director ,Sports Department,PU ,Jasmail Singh Observer ,AIU were among those who were especially present.
The officials who were especially honoured include V.N.Singh, R.K.Sharma, Jasmail Singh, Rakesh Mahendru, Surjit Singh, Darshan Singh and Surinder Singh.Prof Rajinder Singh of GGN Khalsa College Ludhiana conducted the proceedings.
Other winners of road races who were honoured included Gurpreet Kaur, Punjabi University Patiala-1,Desai Priyanka,Pune University-2,Parvathy V.G,Kerala University-3 in 30KM Mass Start (Women), Sarpreet Singh ,Girshrandeep Singh,Jasvir Singh Sarao,Satwant Singh of Punjabi University Patiala-1,Om Parkash Jat,Ramswaroop Jakhar,Kapil Dev Bisnoi,Jetha Ram of Bikaner University -2,Pardeep Kumar ,Vivek Walia,Pankaj Kumar, Salbir Singh of Punjab University-3 in 48 KM Road Team Time Trial (Men).
