The Union Health and family Welfare Minister Shri Gulam Nabi Azad today launched the annual TB Seal Campaign of the Tuberculosis Association of India (TAI). The annual TB Seal Campaign helps to raise funds for promoting anti-TB work in the country and thus provides opportunities to every citizen to contribute to the fight against tuberculosis. Dr. R.K. Srivastava, DGHS and Chairman, TAI presented the TB Seals to the Health Minister and Dr. S.P. Agarwal, President, TAI, got the Souvenir released by Shri Azad.
Tuberculosis Association of India is a voluntary organization set up in February, 1939 as a registered society by incorporating the King Emperor`s Anti-Tuberculosis Fund and King George Thanks-giving (Anti-Tuberculosis) Fund. The seal campaign, introduced in India since the year 1950, is one of the important activities of the Tuberculosis Association of India and its State wings.
Last year, the State Associations sold 96,00,000 (96 lacs) TB seals and this year the State Associations have indented for over one crore TB Seals. Apart from State Associations, the Indian Railways have been of great help in TB Seals sale. The revenue so generated, at the rate of Rs two per seal, is used to fund activities till district level.
