Y.S. RANA, CHANDIGARH—The Department of Community Medicine, Government Medical College and Hospital, Chandigarh organized a seminar and quiz contest on the theme “Food Safety-from farm to plate’ on ‘World Health Day’ at its Rural Health and Training Centre, Palsora here on Tuesday.
The audience included faculty members, demonstrators, medical officers, interns, medical undergraduate students, medical social workers and sanitary inspectors from Department of Community Medicine, GMCH Chandigarh. Dr. Manoj Kumar, Assistant Professor Panjab University and students of Master in Public Health from Centre for Public Health, Panjab University Chandigarh also attended the seminar.
Dr. Simranjit Singh from Department of Community Medicine presented seminar on Food Safety covering important aspects i.e. food safety, food adulteration, key safety measures, associated acts etc. The presentation was followed by interactive quiz held by Dr. Navpreet, Dr. Sandeep Singh and Dr. Anupama on various aspects of nutrition. All the participants participated with great enthusiasm in the quiz. Top three winners were awarded with prizes.
Dr. N.K. Goel, Prof. & Head, Department of Community Medicine resolved the queries raised by audience. He emphasized the importance of food safety and why it is essential to make the food safe from farm to plate. It is important to check use-by dates and labels of packed food, separate raw and ready-to-eat food, cook food thoroughly, refrigerate cooked food within 2 hours of preparation.
Dr. Meenal Thakare, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine delivered the vote of thanks to all present.
