The patient care services including essential and emergency services of PGIMER, Chandigarh were functional nearly normal despite the call of mass casual leave by the PGI nurses welfare association today, as the PGIMER administration took appropriate measures to minimize the inconvenience to the patients. The services were managed with the help of willing nurses and students of National Institute of Nursing Education. The emergency services of all centers including main emergency of Nehru Hospital were functional as on any other day. The OPD services remained unaffected and consultations were provided to approx. 5900 patients in different OPDs. 46 major surgeries were performed. The Labour Commissioner during the reconciliation process agreed with PGIMER administration that all the demands of nursing association had already been taken care of and there was no need to protest. The association has withdrawn the protest.
