Dr Shiv Bagga, assistant professor, Department of Cardiology at PGIMER won the third prize in the CD presentation award session at the recently concluded National Interventional Council Meeting held in Kochi, Kerala. NIC mid-term meet is the apex body meeting for interventional cardiologists all over the country. Dr Bagga won the award after qualifying through a stiff semifinal which had 70 best cases selected from all across the country.
The award includes a 3-month interventional cardiology fellowship training at one of the apex institutes in Asia Pacific or Europe. Commenting on the case, Dr Bagga told that this was a clinical presentation of a young 18 years old boy who presented with giant aneurysms (abnormal enlargement of blood vessels) of arteries supplying the brain, both arms and left leg. Patient presented with severe pain in his left neck and inability to swallow food and also abnormality in speech.
There was an impending danger of rupture of these aneurysms with life threatening bleeds. However, the biggest dilemma in this case was the etiology for the disease, as this has been very rarely reported in the medical literature. After consultation with rheumatology department and extensive workup, a probable diagnosis of a very rare disease i.e Ehlers Danlos Syndrome Type IV was considered. Patient underwent successful endovascular repair of these abnormal vessel enlargements with six covered graft stents deployed at multiple sites. This is the first of this kind of a case done in the country and probably in the world. The patient is doing fine at 2 months follow up.
I am also eds sufferer but not know its type.plz write precaution if you have info about it.
Thanks®ards
