31 Oct : Dr.S.M.Bose, Former Senior Prof and Head of Surgery at P.G.I., Chandigarh, and former President of Association of Surgeons of India is a well-known and highly decorated surgeon of India. He has been awarded the most prestigious Award of International College of Surgeons, Indian Chapter, for the year 2009. He delivered the prestigious Dr.Ginde Memorial Oration on 31st October 2009 in the conference held at Amritsar.
He spoke on the interesting topical subject “ Disappearing Art of Clinical Practice ”.He said that a large number of present day doctors are not following the well trodden medical practice of thorough examination of the patient, which can give diagnosis in a large percentage of cases. Instead of this , marketing forces are pushing the doctors for complicated, costly investigations. Dr. Bose presented a large number of cases where investigations have mislead the doctors and non-performance of frequent clinical examinations have only complicated the cases. Dr. Bose stressed the need for undertaking rational investigations, good communication skills and good doctor-patient relationship
