Chandigarh : The Indian Rheumatology Association awarded the Zydus oration for the year 2011 to Dr Aman Sharma, Assistant Professor in the department of Internal Medicine at PGIMER, Chandigarh.
Dr Aman delivered the oration on uncommon rheumatic diseases at the recently concluded national conference of Indian Rheumatology Association IRACON 2011 held at CMC Vellore. He spoke about a very rare disease ‘Relapsing Polychondritis’. Relapsing polychondritis involves all types of cartilaginous tissues like ears, nose, airways and also proteogly can rich structures like eyes and heart etc. Though a remitting and relapsing disease presenting with pain and reddish discoloration of ears and nose at times it may be life threatening if this is not diagnosed in time. PGIMER has one of the large single centre experiences in the world in diagnosis and managing this disorder.
Dr Aman Sharma was also invited by Prof. Laurent Arnaud to be a part of the world research group for formation and validation for disease activity index of this disease. Dr Sharma also became the executive committee member of the Indian Rheumatology Association.
