Chandigarh 10th July : Our heads hang in shame, when we come across such disgusting and sickening issues at PGIMER, Chandigarh. Most of you must have visited Emergency Complex of Nehru Hospital, PGIMER, Chandigarh. The Waiting Hall provided in Emergency Complex for public and visitors has a Tuck Shop / Tea and Snacks Counter where relatives, staff and visitors can have refreshment.
The Hospital Administration has turned it into an additional ward where serious patients with various diseases including communicable are kept under observation and treatment. A number of patients on trollys are treated by doctors and nurses including administering IV fluids within 1-2 meter of this Tuck Shop in the Waiting Hall.
The relatives, staff and visitors take tea and snacks prepared and served by Vendor within the Waiting Hall where patients with serious ailments are treated.
A medical technologist posted in Emergency has contacted TB and is under treatment. A number of staff take antibiotics as and when they are posted in weekly or monthly Emergency Duty.
The PGI MTA strongly condemned this serious lapse on the part of Hospital Administration of PGI, which is headed by Dr. Anil Kumar, Prof. and Head, Department of Hospital Administration cum Medical Superintendent.
It is requested that either the Tuck Shop be removed from Waiting Hall of PGI Emergency to a safer place or PGI should stop putting patients in Waiting Hall.
