Diabetes Awareness Week is being celebrated by a team from School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh under Dr Madhu Gupta Assistant Professor PGIMER working with NRHM in dispensary of Sector-38 from 16-11-11 to 19-11-11.
The celebration started with community awareness camp in an Anganwadi of Sector 38-A. Women were made aware of the disease and its rising prevalence. Gestational diabetes was the focus of the day. Health talk was given by Dr Nidhi followed by screening of a movie on Diabetes prevention and awareness. Poster and drawing competition was organized in two government schools of Sector 38 on Day 2. Audio-visual presentation was made by Dr Madhan which was followed by an interactive session with students.
There active participation was clearly evident from the efforts they invested in making the posters.40 students from both schools participated in the competition. Prize distribution was conducted by Dr Ravneet Kaur Assistant Professor PGIMER School of Public Health. Importance of Healthy diet and physical activity was emphasized to the children as young people are increasingly being affected from this deadly disease. Healthy habits inculcated at this age can reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases in our future generations. These events will be followed by a free Diabetes screening camp on 19-11-11 at Sector 38C civil dispensary.
