KAPURTHALA, JUNE 18:Displayng an overall supremacy, Delhi boys trounced Jammu and Kashmir by 36-9 in the pre-quarter-final match of the 35th Sub-Junior National Basketball Championship at the Sainik School courts here today.
Delhi had established a comfortable 13- points lead at the end of first quarter. In the second quarter Delhi were leading by 21-6. The winners further increased the lead to 29-9 at the end of third quarter. For Delhi, Narinder (7), Hemant (6), Pankaj (5), Surinder (4) and Amar (6) were the main scorers. J&K reduced the margin through Shubam (3), Shubam Jr (2), Divanshu (2) and Vikrant (2).
Delhi joined hosts Puinjab, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Jharkhand in the quarter-final round. The remaining positions will be determined after the pre-quarter-finals slated for the evening session.
Karnataka will take on Maharastra, Manipur will clash with Chattisgarh, Kerala will face U.P in the boys pre-quarter finals.
Girls teams from Chattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh qualified for quarter-finals.
In pre-quarter final Tamil Nadu defeated Gujarat by 32-14 points, after taking a lead of 11-4 points at the end of first quarter. The Gujarat girls were not allowed to score even a single point in the second quarter. At the end of second quarter Tamil Nadu were leading by 21-4 and in the third quarter Gujara,t playing a tight defense, did not allow Tamil Nadu to score a single point and scored nine points for themselves. The score remained 21-13 in favour of Tamil Nadu at the end of third quarter. For Tamil Nadu, Shiny Prasanna topscored with 12 points. Keerthi and Staya contributed four points each. For Gujarat, Shivani (8) and Shivanku (4) were main scorers.
The remainng positions will be determined by the winners of the pre-quuarter-final matches.
Haryana will play West Bangal, Jharkhand will meet Delhi and Maharastra will face hosts Punjab in the girls pre-quarter finals matches.
